{"id":9092,"date":"2022-05-20T16:00:09","date_gmt":"2022-05-20T14:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/?p=9092"},"modified":"2023-11-15T12:21:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T11:21:38","slug":"padua-urbs-picta-the-masterpiece-of-frescoes-in-the-scrovegni-chapel-and-in-the-eremitani-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/en\/territory\/padua-urbs-picta-the-masterpiece-of-frescoes-in-the-scrovegni-chapel-and-in-the-eremitani-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Padua Urbs Picta: the masterpiece of frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel and in the Eremitani Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Having reached the final, extraordinary stage of our itinerary amid the beauty of Padua Urbs Picta, we treasure what we learned at the previous sites as we can better understand the importance of the frescoes at the Scrovegni Chapel and the Eremitani Church.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">In previous articles we discussed the innovations of Jacopo da Verona in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/en\/territory\/the-wonderful-history-of-painting-told-by-the-frescoes-of-the-oratory-of-san-michele-of-padova-urbs-picta-cycle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s3\">Oratorio di San Michele<\/span><\/a>, the stories told by the frescoes in the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/en\/territory\/padova-urbs-picta-palazzo-della-ragione-and-battistero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s3\"> Palazzo della Ragione and in the Baptistery of the Cathedral<\/span><\/a>, and the importance of the prospective study in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/en\/territory\/padua-urbs-picta-the-basilica-and-the-convent-of-santantonio-and-the-oratory-of-san-giorgio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s3\">Cittadella Antoniana and in the Oratory of San Giorgio.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Our journey through time ends with looking upwards in the Chapel that made Padua a world-famous city, and which contributed to the inclusion of the Paduan pictorial cycle among the Unesco World Heritage sites.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The Scrovegni Chapel: colours and details that are never forgotten<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The cycle of frescoes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.termetritone.it\/en\/territory\/padova-giotto-and-the-scrovegni-chapel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s3\">Scrovegni Chapel<\/span><\/a> was created between 1303 and 1305 by <span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span> Giotto.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not only is this cycle the best preserved in the world, it is also the highest expression of the artist&#8217;s creative genius; such expression is not found in any of his other works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The visitor will be surpised by Giotto&#8217;s research on spatiality, which<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>precedes Leon Battista Alberti&#8217;s theorization of perspective by over a hundred years. In addition, there is in-depth research on the rendering of human emotions<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>with the aim of making them palpable. The same study is carried out by the artist in the representation of plants and animals, architecture, objects and fabrics. Here you can see the development of Giotto&#8217;s work by Guariento di Arpo and Giusto de &#8216;Menabuoi.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span> <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The artists study the <span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">r<\/span><\/span>endering of the architecture, making it more complex and articulated than that present in Giotto&#8217;s cycle. They also pay attention to detail to give the cycle a new <span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span> scenographic effect. The noblewoman<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Traversina Cortellieri entrusted Giusto de &#8216;Menabuoi with the frescoes for the chapel dedicated to her son Tebaldo.
