The architectural identity of Hotel Tritone: the long partnership with engineer Francesco Miotto
There are places that evolve, grow and transform into unique experiences. Hotel Tritone is one of them. Behind its elegance and comfort that make it a benchmark in the luxury hospitality scene, there is a continuous work of innovation and attention to detail.
A path that, since 2005, has seen, in support of General Manager Walter Poli, the key figure of engineer Francesco Miotto, a leading professional in the thermal basin. In this interview, he tells us about his long collaboration with Hotel Triton, a journey of ambition, transformation and passion for beauty.
How did your collaboration with Hotel Tritone begin?
I already had experience with hotels in the area and, in 2005, Dr Poli contacted me with a clear request: transform the hotel and bring it to the top of hospitality in Abano Terme.
Hotel Tritone had an identity that was still being defined, and right from the start I sensed the determination of the owners to make it one of the most beautiful in the area. The first undertaking involved a small wooden building, but it was only the beginning of a larger project.
What were the initial challenges?
The objective was ambitious: to accompany the growth of Hotel Tritone towards a sustainable and distinctive luxury. The responsibility of my office covered all technical aspects: from construction to safety, from fire prevention to health authorisations. Spa hotels have a unique complexity and require in-depth knowledge of the sector, which is only refined by direct experience.
What was the first big undertaking and what made it special?
One of the first significant projects was the renovation of the Hexagon, a distinctive architectural element of the hotel façade. Hotel Tritone does not have an anonymous appearance, as is the case with other hotels built gradually over time. On the contrary, he has always followed a clear and consistent aesthetic, with an almost maniacal attention to detail. That’s what makes it special: every change is designed with a unified vision in mind.
What transformations have had the greatest impact?
Each undertaking was significant because it was the result of precise requirements and a far-sighted vision. I am thinking, for example, of the treatment department: here marble was chosen to convey a sense of refinement and well-being. Even the mud baths are landscaped to the finest detail, with porphyry paving and visible canopies. Each element has been designed to blend harmoniously with the identity of Hotel Tritone.
Is there a project you are particularly proud of?
Undoubtedly the extension of the dining room, but also the work on the roofing where ‘rheinzink’ material was used, which initiated a distinctive aesthetic later adopted throughout the hotel.
How important is the link with the territory in a project like this?
Being rooted in the territory makes all the difference, especially in the spa sector. The specificities of this world need to be thoroughly understood: from water management to knowledge of thermal mud, every aspect requires specialist expertise. Relying on local professionals guarantees timeliness and continuity, two crucial elements for the success of a luxury hotel.
What role does collaboration between different professionals play?
A project of this magnitude cannot be tackled by a single figure. A close-knit team is needed, in which each professional has a clearly defined role. Over the years, Hotel Tritone has built up an established team of experts: engineers, designers, safety specialists. It is this team spirit that has contributed to the hotel’s growth.
How has your vision of architecture changed as a result of this collaboration?
Working with Hotel Tritone allowed me to grow and refine my approach. I learnt that top-class hospitality is not only built with fine materials, but with a mentality devoted to absolute quality, like Dr Poli’s. Attention to detail is what makes the difference: when a hotel maintains order and cleanliness even in places hidden from guests, it means that its excellence is genuine and profound.
His son Daniele later joined this collaboration. How was it for you to see his involvement in a project you have been working on for so many years?
It gave me great satisfaction. I always left Daniele free to build his own path and, after experiences in other enterprises, he chose to work with me. This brought a new dimension to the study. He fitted into the projects naturally and now plays the role I used to play independently. Daniele is highly appreciated for his approach and the seriousness with which he approaches each project. He coordinates the work of the studio with me and has found his ideal size, both in management and operations. I couldn’t ask for better: knowing that our work continues with the same dedication and professionalism is the best possible recognition.
Looking ahead, what challenges await Hotel Tritone?
The future of the hotel will be increasingly oriented towards sustainability, a theme that has already been carefully embraced. Thermal water, for example, is an extraordinary resource, and there are interesting projects underway to maximise its potential. The challenge will be to continue to innovate without ever losing the identity and elegance that distinguish this company.
What does it mean to you to be part of this story?
To be at Hotel Triton’s side in this journey is truly a great satisfaction. When talking to potential customers, I always cite Tritone as an example of excellence and virtuous collaboration. Over the years, a relationship of trust and mutual esteem has been created between my studio and the hotel management, and to see this constant growth is a source of pride.
If you had to describe Tritone in three concepts, what would they be?
I would say: professionalism, vision, attention to detail. Hotel Tritone is a company that knows how to value the professionals it works with, recognising the importance of human capital and skills.
Do you have a message for the guests of Hotel Tritone?
When you choose Hotel Tritone, you choose a place where nothing is left to chance. Behind every detail there is passion, rigour and an unwavering commitment to offer an unparalleled hospitality experience. One only has to open a closet to understand the philosophy of this hotel: the attention that is paid to what is unseen is the same as the attention that is paid to representative rooms. It is a clear sign of how much Tritone cares about quality in every aspect, from internal organisation to guest care. This is true luxury: the certainty of being in an environment where everything is designed for well-being, beauty and comfort.
