Souls at Hotel Tritone: the show you can “feel by watching”
A collection of photographs and sculptures on display in the lounge of Walter’s Bar and in the corridors of Hotel Tritone will not have escaped the attentive eyes of the hotel’s guests. This is the exhibition “Souls”, by Carola Castagna and Elisa Gambalonga. As the description states, it represents “a meeting of sculpture and photography, nuanced images that embrace matter”.
The material works of Carola Castagna
Various types of earths and clays are combined with different kinds of materials, from colours to enamels, glass to metals, to give shape to the artist’s imagery on the theme of the feminine. The result is an ideal of beauty, based on the equilibrium between “nature and artifice”.
Elisa Gambalonga’s shots suspended in time and space
The “Self-portraits” series stems from a particular attention to the “aesthetic rendering of the image” fuelled by a constant search for beauty. Through the self-timer, the photographer manages to focus attention exclusively on herself and on the natural movements of her body. Flowers, leaves, and twigs thus merge with gestures according to a principle of unity and harmony between body and nature.
“Souls is not what you see but what you feel when you look”.
Elisa Gambalonga was happy to tell us about her relationship with photography:
“I have only recently entered the world of photography. During the Covid period, I like whoever else, had more time to spend at home and I started experimenting. I developed a passion and decided to continue with online and in-person courses.
The culmination of my journey was the exhibition I held in Venice in March 2023, in the Scuola dei Lanieri, together with two other photographers. For me, it was a moment of great satisfaction and the first important milestone that gave me the drive to continue in this field. Walter Poli gave me a helping hand towards achieving this goal, as he recognised the value of my work right from the start. So, for me, exhibiting at the Tritone was really exciting!”
