The exceptional heritage of the Euganean Hills is recognised by Unesco

What do the Euganean Hills have to do with the African landscapes of the Gambia River, the green plains of the Philippines and the peaks of the western frontier of the Catalan Pyrenees?

They are all part of the list of 11 new World Biodiversity Reserves, approved by Unesco in early July 2024. The Euganean Hills, therefore, reach a new important milestone and the entire staff of Hotel Tritone, which has always promoted them, can be nothing but satisfied.

THE ‘HARMONIOUS COEXISTENCE’ THAT CONVINCED UNESCO

As Unesco writes on its site, the Euganean Hills are a ‘picturesque landscape’ formed by 81 volcanic hills covering an area of 341 km². The natural and cultural heritage of this area includes not only the thermal area that our guests are familiar with, but also places of beauty and richness such as olive groves, vineyards, villages, typical flora and fauna. This heritage is the great value of the Euganean Hills, together with the ability to manage it in a sustainable manner. In the UNESCO record, it reads:

“This region is fostering sustainable agriculture and ecotourism while ensuring participatory governance, in order to lay the groundwork for a harmonious coexistence between human economic activities and environmental preservation”.

THE GENUINE GOODNESS OF EUGANEAN HILLS PRODUCTS AT HOTEL TRITONE

This ‘harmonious coexistence’ between man and the environment has always been the driving force behind the collaborations that exist between Hotel Tritone and a number of companies in the Euganean Hills that share a love for this fabulous environment. Therefore, our hotel’s wine cellar includes wines from various producers in the Euganean Hills, labels of which sommeliers Mirco and Paolo are very knowledgeable and about which we have told you in the article dedicated to the terroir of the Euganean Hills

In addition, there are two other excellent local products that every guest can enjoy: olive oil from the Frantoio di Cornoleda and honeycomb honey from Apicoltura Giarin.

VISITING THE EUGANEAN HILLS FROM HOTEL TRITONE

The Euganean Hills are the perfect destination to explore in a day if you want to spend a few hours in nature, discovering the villages nestled among the hills and special local products. They can be reached by car for a walk or by bike starting directly from Hotel Tritone. In any case, guests can ask the reception staff for all useful directions for the trip to this extraordinary place, now also recognised by Unesco.
