Venice Carnival 2025: timeless elegance and magic

The Venice Carnival is a celebration that brings with it the magic of history, the charm of masks and the unique atmosphere of the canals. The 2025 edition, entitled “In the time of Casanova”, celebrates the 300th anniversary of Giacomo Casanova’s birth, turning the lagoon city into a stage for unforgettable events. 

From 14 February to 4 March 2025, Venice comes alive with parties, shows and parades attracting visitors from all over the world.

The main events of the Venice Carnival 2025

Opening night – Valentine’s Day Special
On 14 February, the Carnival kicks off with a unique event in St Mark’s Square, where the romantic atmosphere of Venice blends with light shows, music and entertainment. It is the perfect opportunity to celebrate love and immerse yourself in the city’s charm on Valentine’s Day.

Festa Veneziana – The Carnival Water Parade
On 16 February, the Grand Canal becomes the beating heart of Carnival with the traditional water parade. Ornate gondolas and historic boats cross the canal, creating an atmospheric spectacle that captures the soul of the city and its connection to water.

The Feast of the Marie
From 22 February to 4 March, the historic “Feast of the Marie” celebrates the twelve Venetian girls who will parade through the city in masks, until the winner is proclaimed in St Mark’s Square on Shrove Tuesday. A tradition that combines elegance, folklore and history.

Venice Carnival Street Show
During the entire Carnival period, Venice turns into an open-air theatre. Street artists, musicians and circus shows enliven the calli and campielli, providing moments of entertainment and wonder for young and old.

Arsenal Water Show
From 21 to 23 February and from 27 February to 4 March, the Arsenal Water Show hosts an enchanting water and light show. With pyrotechnics and amazing sets, the experience promises to leave the audience breathless.

Carnival float parades
The parades extend not only to the historic centre of Venice but also to its islands and the mainland. An opportunity to explore the more playful and creative side of the Carnival, with colourful floats, masks and engaging music.
