The origins and traditions of Venice Carnival

Venice Carnival has very old origins: the first official edict to proclaim the festival day dates back to the 13^th century, and many traditions dating back to this time are still celebrated today.

Among the most characteristic are the Carnival masks, worn to hide identity, social class and sex, and allow the wearer to take part in an illusion where, for a few days, anything can happen.
