Arquà petrarca

A bike ride into the past of Arquà Petrarca

There are a thousand ways to explore the Euganean Hills and as many routes to discovering every corner of the area. In the “ Euganean Travel ” series we suggest using a unique vehicle, a vehicle of slow and dreamy journeys: the  bicycle.

Bikes are  available at Hotel Tritone: Guests can book one at reception, pick it up later and drop it off at the hotel when they have returned from the ride. These are  e-bikes  that can also used by less trained people, especially on long rides.

The route we recommend is perfect for this relaxing experience: it winds through the Euganean Hills for almost  30 km, starting  from  Piazza Capitello di Torreglia.  This location is easily accessible from the hotel as it is only 5.5 km away; those km should be added to the route’s total distance.

The destination of this trip is the lovely village of Arquà Petrarca.

Torreglia

THE LANDSCAPES OF TORREGLIA ARE SHOWCASED AT THE START OF THE ROUTE.

Starting from Piazza Capitello, take provincial road 25 in the direction of Galzignano Terme, an intermediate stop on the route. The landscape becomes more and more bucolic and the roads follow the profile of the mountains. Ample  vineyards  and slopes covered with  olive trees  appear intermittently. When crops give way to the woods, the landscape becomes even more idyllic until you arrive at Galzignano.

GALZIGNANO SPA: THE MUSEUM AND THE GOLF CLUB

The town offers a break and a possible visit to the  Museum of the Euganean Hills.  The museum doesn’t have many rooms, so it can be visited during a bike ride. It recounts the nature of the Hills from archaeological and ornithological perspectives.

Continuing the tour, take provincial road 25d which also leads to the  Padova Golf Club.  Together with two others, this golf club is associated with Hotel Tritone, and we talked about it in our article about golf. From the cycle path you can see some  of the golf course, which you leave behind as you get closer to one of the most spectacular villas in the Euganean Hills.

A FABULOUS, UNCONTAMINATED PLACE: THE VALSANZIBIO ESTATE

Villa Barbarigo

Villa Barbarigo Pizzoni Ardemani is a stop that would need a visit to itself. Visitors can be enthralled by the  Italian garden:  wonderful place with statues and fountains, and a labyrinth full of ancient symbols.

On thid route, however, you can just stop in front of the part of the villa that overlooks the road and admire what is the prelude to a future visit. Continue along the same road until you reach the intersection with via Costa, easily recognizable by a lake of the same name.    From here continue on provincial road 16 which leads to our destination.

A JEWEL SET IN THE HILLS: ARQUÀ PETRARCA

Once in Arquà Petrarca, you cycle along the cobbled streets that take you back to the time of poet Francesco Petrarch, who spent his final years here.

Il villaggio di arquà

We discuss in detail the village of  Arquà Petrarca,  which lent its name to our Hotel SPA. You travel back along the same route, dreaming of relaxation in the  Arquà Petrarca spa at Hotel Tritone.
